John Plante, former Sr. VP for University Advancement at Duquesne, to lead the 40-year-old nonprofit.
PITTSBURGH, PA (December 1) – Family House announced that John Plante has been hired to serve as its next Executive Director, effective today.
“I am pleased to join my colleagues on the Board and welcome John Plante to Family House,” said Board Chair G. Reynolds “Renny” Clark. “John’s broad management, development, and finance experience, and his demonstrated success as a nonprofit leader, make him the perfect fit to serve in this role.
“We look forward to working with John as he outlines plans to lead the organization in the next exciting chapter of its illustrious history.”
Plante succeeds Jennifer March, who informed the organization’s Board of Directors in June that she would be resigning her post at the end of 2023, after serving in that role for more than six-and-a-half years.
“We extend our immense gratitude to Jennifer for her leadership during her tenure as Executive Director,” Clark said. “She guided Family House through its historic consolidation into a single location, where it will continue to serve patients and families long into the future. All of us wish her continued success in the next chapter of her career.”
Plante comes to Family House with nearly 35 years of experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector. The new Executive Director, who has extensive experience in finance, served as Senior Vice President for University Advancement at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh from 2006-2021. During that time he successfully led a professional staff of more than 70 individuals through two comprehensive capital fundraising campaigns that resulted in gift commitments totaling more than $380 million. More recently, he served as Chief Development Officer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater PA and WV, where he initiated the first comprehensive major and planned giving program for the chapter.
“I am thrilled and humbled to be joining this wonderful organization,” Plante said. “The Family House mission is one that is both near and dear to my heart, and its values are ones that I share.
“I look forward to working with the dedicated Board, volunteers, and staff who fulfill Family House’s important mission every day, ensuring that it continues to serve as a ‘home away from home’ for the
thousands of families that travel to Pittsburgh for medical care each year and benefit from its programs and services.”
The new Executive Director received his BS in Accounting from California State University (Los Angeles) and an MA in Philanthropy & Development from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. He joins Family House as the organization continues its yearlong 40th anniversary celebration and nears the completion of its $16 million Under One Roof capital campaign.
