Family House announces $1.2 Million Campaign Gift

Donation from Pittsburgh philanthropists Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin brings campaign total to $15.4 million

PITTSBURGH, PA (November 13) – On the 40th anniversary of Family House opening its first “home away from home” for patients and families who travel to Pittsburgh for medical care, the organization announced that its Under One Roof capital campaign had received a $1.2 million gift from Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin. The Pittsburgh philanthropists’ gift brings the total raised to date to $15.4 million; the campaign goal is $16 million.

“What an incredible gift from one of Pittsburgh’s most generous couples,” said Family House Executive Director Jennifer March. “Dan and Carole make it a practice of directing their philanthropy to organizations they believe are serving the broader community and making a real impact, as well as enhancing the ‘livability’ of this city.

“Their commitment is a testament to their belief in Family House’s mission and the essential role it plays in the region’s world-class healthcare delivery system.”

The Kamins are very familiar with the services Family House provides. Carole has long served on the Board of the Shadyside Ladies Hospital Aid Society, a longstanding benefactor of Family House where she currently is President. On a personal note, her family experienced Family House’s mission delivery first-hand when a member of Carole’s family was undergoing medical care in Pittsburgh.

The announcement of the Kamins’ gift comes on the very date when Family House welcomed its first guests into its original McKee Place location in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood 40 years ago.
“How fitting it is for Family House to acknowledge Dan and Carole on this milestone anniversary,” added March.

“We are honored to add their names above the entrance to our newly consolidated location in appreciation for their most generous leadership support.”

As a result of the Kamins’ gift, total commitments to Under One Roof: The Campaign for Family House have topped $15.4 million.

“All of us are gratified and humbled by the generosity of Pittsburgh’s philanthropic community,” said Glen
Feinberg, chair of the Under One Roof campaign’s volunteer fundraising Cabinet and a member of the Family House Board of Directors. “Dan and Carole’s extraordinarily generous, personal investment in Family House’s future demonstrates to the broader community the vital role we play in Pittsburgh’s healthcare delivery.

“Their leadership gift will help ensure that Family House will continue to fulfill its mission long into the future.”

The Under One Roof capital campaign, which has surpassed 96% of its goal, has recently commenced the public phase of its campaign with the goal of reaching $16 million in commitments by June 2024.
