Family House provides a special “home away from home” for patients and families who travel to Pittsburgh for medical care. Operating homes in the Shadyside and Oakland neighborhoods, Family House offers convenient, affordable housing in a home-like environment to more than 22,000 patients and caregivers each year.
UPMC has been a longstanding partner of Family House since its inception in 1983. This page includes information that you can share with your patients about all of the services available to them at Family House’s three locations.

Family House welcomes patients and their families from all Pittsburgh-area hospital systems, including UPMC, Allegheny Health Network, and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System.

—Is there financial support available for people who can’t afford the full cost?
Yes, Family House has a Family Assistance Fund that is available to offset the cost of a room for families who qualify on the basis of income or length of stay. To complete this application, please see your hospital coordinator.
